Surge water tests and ice immersion tests are used to test enclosures or capsules for tightness under extreme conditions. Furthermore, ice water shock tests are used to provide evidence of the insensitivity of components to thermal shocks.
In surge water tests, a wide variety of liquids are used as the surge medium, for example demineralised water, drinking water or suspensions of fine dust such as Arizona dust. In surge water tests, the test specimen is heated and then abruptly cooled by a surge of cold water.
This surge water test simulates, for example, the thermal stress on engine components when driving through a puddle in winter.
